This is called prenatal screening. Taking part is always your own choice.<\/p>\n<h2>Two types of test<\/h2>\n<ul class=\"ll-checklist\">\n<li><strong>NIPT<\/strong> &ndash; a blood test that looks for chromosomal abnormalities, such as Down syndrome.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The 13-week scan and the 20-week scan<\/strong> &ndash; scans that check whether your baby is developing well physically. (The 13-week scan is offered within a national scientific study.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Counselling appointment<\/h2>\n<p>Would you like to know more about these tests? Then we will arrange a counselling appointment together. We calmly explain what the tests involve, so you can make a choice that suits you.<\/p>\n<h2>You decide for yourself whether to take part<\/h2>\n<p>The NIPT, the 13-week scan and the 20-week scan are not mandatory.
